Happenings

24 Jul

We’ve been busy.  We went to Illinois a few weeks ago and to Door County over the fourth of July.  We’re working on the upstairs bathroom which has taken a lot more time and work than we imagined.  We had some dear friends come and spend the weekend with us.  Lots of other little things.  I’ll update you on a few of them here.

It’s been HOT recently.  And humid.  On Tuesday, Minneapolis had the highest dew point in the world.  That means that it was more humid in Minneapolis than in the rain forests of the Amazon.  At least I think that’s what it means.  But it was dang humid, let me tell you.  Because it’s been so humid, we’ve been unable to prime our bathroom so progress has stalled.  It’s been quite a hassle too, that bathroom, because it used to be tiled, we discovered.  And whomever took down the tiles did a poor job repairing the wall afterwards.  We’re approaching cautiously and we’ll see what happens after we slap up some primer, re-spackle, prime again, and paint.

But enough about bathrooms.

We spent the fourth of July in Door County with Steve’s family.  It was his Aunt Julie’s 50th birthday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIE.  The family got her a diamond necklace and 49 additional gifts that started with “J” (get it: Julie, jewelry, jello, joke book, etc.).  Steve’s mom also turns the big 5-0 this year and she has challenged me to find 50 gifts that begin with V.  (Vicki…V, get it?).  Challenge accepted.  Also, I heard a SPECTACULAR joke over that weekend so the next time I see you, ask me about it.

Over the weekend, we went on a boat ride as a family and then Saturday had a party for Julie’s birthday.  Here’s some photos from the event:

Look at that hip on Vicki!
And finally, my favorite:

Last week I got angry and went all “Hulkish” on my cutting board.  See evidence below.

We went out with our friends Ben and Theresa a few weekends ago to see a movie in the park.  They run every day except Sunday in the summer so we can go any time, really.  It was fun.  We saw the Never Ending Story, which only Ben had seen but whose Flying Dragon/Dog seems oddly familiar.

U2 is coming to the TCF Stadium on Saturday.  We, sadly, are not going.

Our government shutdown is over.  Finally.  I still cannot understand what purpose that was supposed to have served but I’m just glad it’s over.

One thing I don’t need to spend my money on is t-shirts.  But that doesn’t stop me from trolling etsy.com for things I don’t need.  I could go for these:

True dat, as they say.

I love crabs.  I think they’re the most hysterical looking animal that I’ve ever seen.  Perhaps it was living in Virginia where we saw them almost every time we were on the beach but I just can’t get enough of them.  Crabs and mooses.  Moose?  Meese?  Hmmm…crabs.

And this one is super sweet.  It’s true.  Everyone is nice.

That’s some of what’s been going on.  I primed or bathroom today so hopefully an update soon!
